Bat Yam Citizen Arrested for $186M U.S. Crypto Heist Linked to Nomad Hack
Alexander Gurevich, a 47-year-old dual Russian-Israeli citizen from Bat Yam, was apprehended at Ben-Gurion Airport on May 1 while attempting to flee to Russia under an alias. U.S. authorities accuse him of exploiting a security flaw in California-based blockchain firm Nomad, stealing $2.89 million in crypto tokens during a 2022 breach that later escalated into a $186 million drain by subsequent hackers.
The extradition request highlights charges including computer crimes, money laundering, and transfer of stolen digital assets. Gurevich’s arrest marks the first public disclosure of his alleged involvement in the high-profile exploit, which targeted cross-chain bridge vulnerabilities.
